Job Summary

The CAN Advisor will provide academic and social skills support to neurodivergent students including students with autism and other developmental or learning differences. The CAN Advisor will help students develop effective learning skills, study habits, time management strategies and workplace skills. The CAN Advisor will collaborate with the CAN Director to provide direct and indirect supports and resources for student success, independence, and self-advocacy. The successful candidate will help students set short-term and long-term goals, and monitor goal progress throughout the academic year. The CAN Advisor will respond to students experiencing academic difficulties and will develop academic interventions designed to improve their academic performance. This person will assist students in learning effective study skills that involve awareness of how to learn - knowing how to retain, organize, integrate, and apply information, problem-solving, and successfully balancing life in the process.

Essential Functions



  • Meet with students one-on-one on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis to develop and monitor proactive plans for ongoing academic, social and employment success.
  • Assist with workshops, skills training, and courses specifically for CAN students.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student interactions.
  • Assist with the peer-mentoring program as needed.
  • Assist with the Neurodragons Student Organization as needed.
  • Assist in promoting CAN (possibly on a few weekends a year) on Drexel's campus to prospective and new students as needed.
  • Assist with planning and convening on and off-campus activities such as the Autism at Work: University Series events, Faculty and Staff Education Series events, and employee breakfasts with the Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC).


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in an applicable field.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply ABA methods.
  • Knowledge of psychoeducational/social and adaptive assessments and interpretation of results.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various departments.
  • Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities, different levels of academic preparation, and varying abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience working in higher education with students with disabilities.

Additional Information

This is a Full-Time temporary position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
