Job Description Summary

Senior EHS Manager will provide leadership and direction to ensure that the assigned location(s) and employee populations are knowledgeable in and compliant with applicable Environmental Health & Safety regulations. This role delivers strategic and tactical EHS support for assigned sites and operations. The Senior EHS Manager leads and executes EHS programs, ensures regulatory compliance, drives continuous improvement and implements robust systems to reduce risk across divers operational environments including laboratories, distribution, and remanufacturing/servicing operations.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies & programs for local compliance with applicable local, regional and federal EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.) for assigned locations and groups.

  • Maintain multi-site oversight by standardizing EHS processes (incident reporting, investigations/RCA, CAPA management, etc.), performing compliance reviews and ensuring consistent implementation across assigned locations.

  • Ensure the execution of safe laboratory practices and work with team members to facilitate proper handling of materials, intermediates and products.

  • Lead development of procedures supporting regulatory compliance and corporate policy conformance, incorporating site-specific or activity specific considerations

  • Lead programs that promote safe driving behaviors, emphasizing situational awareness, defensive driving techniques and proactive risk avoidance.

  • Develop & deploy ongoing communication campaigns that reinforce key safety messages focused on driver awareness and safety on the road and during loading/unloading activities.

  • Manage EHS training necessary to maintain regulatory compliance for the location(s) and/or organization.

  • Maintain and execute an EHS compliance calendar for all required regulatory and policy activities for all locations and organizations assigned.

  • Implement and lead EHS related committees for assigned locations and organizations.

  • Ensures mandatory OSHA reporting (U.S only) is completed, i.e. annual OSHA 300 log, notification of serious accident, hospitalization or death.

  • Develops local system (procedures, call tree, messaging system, etc...) for EHS regulatory agency inspections and site contact/visits. Serves as the lead point of contact during the agency activity and when possible, travel to site for direct support of regulatory agency activity.

  • Develop and implement local systems (procedures, equipment specifications, training, secure volunteers, drills etc...) for location Emergency Response and performance.

  • Analyzes and communicates EHS data trends, compliance performance and permitting activity and leads location EHS review meeting on a quarterly or more frequent basis with location leadership team(s), EHS Corporate and other applicable higher management levels of the company.

  • Performs EHS required annual reviews and audits of assigned locations and develops corrective action plans with location owners to improve EHS compliance and performance.

  • Manage environmental compliance programs, prepare/submit permits/reports for compliance with laws/regulations for applicable environmental domains.

  • Ensures required systems are in place for environmental analytical testing and record keeping requirements to be performed as necessary to maintain compliance.

  • Manages, evaluates and promotes applicable Sustainability actions according to company or location requirements.

  • Ensure location(s) successfully implement Company's SDS management system, hazardous materials management and industrial hygiene practices.

  • Serve as EHS representative for Capital Projects in order to review for EHS uncontrolled hazards, impacts and permitting requirements.

  • Reviews new processes/equipment or new construction and/or building modifications for EHS impacts and collaborates with appropriate project teams in developing corrective actions to address findings.

  • Monitors and reports to location and/or functional area leadership on the status and effectiveness of EHS related corrective and preventive actions.

  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in EHS or related Science field is required. Equivalent documented experience in EHS practice may be considered.

  • A required minimum of 7 years' experience in EHS, preferably within a chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing and/or Research Laboratory setting with direct responsibility for EHS activity.

  • Thorough understanding of EHS science; analytical and problem-solving skills; strong communication skills (speaking and listening).

  • Working knowledge of EHS regulation with strong understanding of OSHA and EPA laws.

Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience interacting with site and corporate leadership teams

  • Experience in negotiation, conflict resolution and training

  • Experience in pharmaceutical/medical device or other GxP industry

  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deliverables while working in a team environment

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to build interpersonal relationships in a patient-focused matrixed organization

Organizational Relationship/Scope:

Reports to Director, Global EHS.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based role with minimum 50% travel to assigned locations

The expected base pay range for this position is $162K - $200K. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

This position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable program. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion.
