General Summary
Performs evaluations and treatment within the scope of SLP practice per ASHA standards. Provides case
coordination, parent counseling and follow up services to community. Completes required
documentation. Provides mentoring and supervision to Hospital trainees and staff. May participate in
clinical research. Works on program development with the director, leads committees and groups. Plans,
manages, and coordinates patient therapeutic and educational services. Supervises the clinical practice
in accordance with the policies and procedures of the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs evaluations and treatment, within the scope of SLP practice per ASHA standards as assigned. Interviews and counsels' families and patients regarding communication/feeding and swallowing status. Plans and implements case management, follow-up, and referrals for patients. Documents and reports the results of communication / feeding and swallowing evaluations and treatment.
- Adheres to hospital and departmental policies, coordinates program meetings, and reports outcomes to the director. Shares resources and knowledge with the team and supports professional growth through continuing education and collaboration.
- Completes program tasks (e.g., intake triage, program inquiries) and in-house in-services (e.g., fellows' presentations) as assigned. Supervises staff at the following levels: clinical fellows, graduate clinicians, SLP I, SLP II, SLP III, Specialty SLP. Active participant and lead committees or working groups. May participate in clinical research. Represents Boston Children's, presents leadership, clinical innovation, and research at national and/or international conferences.
- Works with director on program development (e.g., Position statements, clinical protocols, development and implementation/ training of competencies). Monitors and seeks clinical and program innovation opportunities and reviews with director. Supervises clinical practices in accordance with the policies and procedures of the program and department. Coordinates the services delivered by other staff as assigned (e.g., managing schedules, monitoring productivity).
- Provides input to capital equipment needs and assesses needs for major equipment repairs to Director. Orders minor equipment and supplies in accordance with allotted budget. Maintains organization of resource materials for efficient operations. Participates in program digital solutions meetings.
- Orients and mentors new personnel. Liaises with scheduling staff for template management and program needs. Participates in hiring process. Conducts performance reviews and regularly scheduled annual goals coaching/check-ins for direct reports Monitors internal consistency and adherence to program-specific protocols. Manages PeopleSoft and Kronos for direct reports.
Minimum Requirements
Education and License
- A master's degree or higher in Speech Language Pathology
- A current Massachusetts state license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA)
Experience
- 5 years' progressively responsible and specialized clinical experience, including responsibility for specialized pediatric speech programs within a clinical service
- Work requires the analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems OR design relatively complex systems and programs.
- Work requires strong communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, and well-developed writing skills.
The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
