The College of Veterinary Medicine, with the University of Arizona, invites applicants for the position of Learning Specialist. A successful candidate will develop and implement strategies, systems, processes, learning experiences, and networks that support the achievement of desired academic and career outcomes, including the overall student experience. They will assist students in successfully integrating into the institution's environment and to thrive personally and academically. The Learning Specialist assists and empowers students to achieve academic success and social adjustment through a variety of activities including academic coaching, student learning centers, academic preparation and success coursework, tutoring, life skills support, and other services. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Responsible for developing proactive support systems, individualized study and recovery plans, targeted interventions, and skill-building resources to support at-risk students and improve overall retention.
- Performs a variety of responsibilities to facilitate the growth and development of students in their academic and social integration into the University.
- Develops rapport and productive relationships with students by creating engaging, responsive, and welcoming environments for students to grow and gain new skills.
- Develops, plans, implements, and delivers coursework (credit and non-credit) and related learning experiences that prepares individuals for the university experience and/or enhances academic success of current students.
- Assesses student learning outcomes by evaluating course grades and analyzing coursework data, exam performance, and board preparation benchmarks to ensure academic success.
- Supports academically at-risk students, adult and non-traditional learners, returning students, and those on academic probation or experiencing stress and burnout. Interventions include individualized learning plans, academic coaching, targeted remediation, and collaboration with faculty.
- Monitors progress of students and student groups.
- Assists student in maximizing usage of institutional resources.
- Communicates with faculty, academic advisors, and others to identify students in need of support.
- Organizes and facilitates workshops and other activities.
- Maintains and documents contact with students in standard reporting structures of each department to communicate student progress to and with appropriate constituents.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
