Position Overview:

Join Woolpert as a Survey Team Lead I/Field Crew Coordinator to join our Survey and Geomatics team in our Houston, Texas office. The Land Surveying Team Lead I/Field Crew Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the planning, data collection, managing and directing field survey staff, and supporting the professional growth of the survey team members. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Expectations will include, but not limited to, pricing & scoping, communication with internal and external clients and other survey discipline team members, equipment management, fleet management and crew scheduling. The candidate should have foundational knowledge of topographic, control/geodetic, transportation, subsurface utility, boundary/ROW determination, and ALTA surveying, technical and logistical aspects of vehicle fleet and equipment management.

What You Will Do:



  • Assist in preparation of surveying solutions for completion in the field to support project/program requirements.
  • Assist in developing scopes of work, schedules, and estimates for survey projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership during the proposal and planning phases.
  • Responsible for effective planning and scheduling of workload and performance of team members.
  • Manage survey staff resource levels, including assisting in the hiring and supervising all field teams.
  • Facilitate the personal and professional growth of team members through coaching, training, and development activities.
  • Onboard new field staff.
  • Ensure all field staff are up to date on all safety training requirements: internal, project- and client-specific.
  • Maintain and monitor fleet and equipment assets.
  • Representing the firm at various functions as needed.


What You Will Bring:



  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 8 years of related work experience in the land surveying field.
  • Proficient in operating survey instruments and software, including total stations, GNSS GPS receivers, levels, and data collectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to data transfer, data processing software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in coordinating, planning, and scheduling survey tasks and field crews.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and respond to industry changes and internal initiatives.
  • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
  • Ability to travel overnight and work overtime as needed.
  • Pass a pre-employment driver's license background check and maintain a satisfactory driving record, as required by our insurance company.
  • Must successfully pass periodic drug testing as required by company policy.



Physical Qualifications:



  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Good physical condition and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms, bend and climb and/or balance.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment. For instance, tape measure, cloth / steel tape, machete, hammer, shovel, pick axe.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must have vision abilities of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
