Position description

The holder of the Dolly and David Fiddyment Endowed Chair in Teacher Education will be a senior faculty member in the School of Education whose research focus is Teacher Education and whose distinguished scholarship has been recognized through publications in highly cited journals, federal and foundation grants, and receipt of significant awards or fellowships.

The term of the Fiddyment Endowed Chair in Teacher Education is five years, after which there will be an open recruitment for the next chairholder. The chairholder may apply again to the open recruitment.

The endowment payout (approximately $59K annually) will support the chairholder's research, teaching, and public service and advance the mission of the School of Education and the campus:

The UC Davis School of Education's mission is to marshal the knowledge and resources of the University of California, the world's pre-eminent public research university, to confront and eliminate inequities among people and communities through the generation of impactful knowledge and the promise of education.

The funds are also available to support innovation in the Teacher Education Program. They cannot be used to supplement the chairholder's salary. Funds not used by the end of the 5-year appointment will revert to the Dean.

It is expected that the holder of the Endowed Chair will progress at least normally through the faculty ranks based on their scholarly activities, teaching, and university and public service.

In addition, it is expected that the holder of the Dolly and David Fiddyment Endowed Chair in Teacher Education shall:

* Conduct research that has an impact through advancing the scholarly understanding and professional practice of teaching and teacher education

* Be actively engaged in teaching and service activities focused on the SOE Teacher Education program

* Provide leadership in Teacher Education (e.g., Chair of the Teacher Education Program, Cohort Lead, Chair of Admissions)

* Provide leadership and service at the national, state, and local levels in the teacher education field (e.g., AACTE, CABE, CCTE, NARST, NCTM, etc.)

* Build awareness about teacher education and teaching across the UCD campus

* Develop research-practice partnerships between local school districts and the Teacher Education Program


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* Full Professor in the UC Davis School of Education (by appointment date)

* Scholarly contributions are to the field of teacher education

* Has demonstrated impact on teacher education through publications in highly cited journals, federal and foundation grants, and receipt of significant awards or fellowships.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

* Willingness to serve as Chair of the SOE TEP
