Summary:

Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS) seeks a dynamic, results-oriented clinical executive to serve as the Director, Emergency Services. This leader will oversee the innovative PresNow network-New Mexico's premier integrated Emergency Department and Urgent Care (ED/UC) model.

As the healthcare landscape shifts toward greater accessibility and transparency, the Director will ensure that the mission, strategy, and financial health of PHS are realized through superior clinical management. This role is designed for a visionary leader capable of navigating the complexities of a provider-payer system while maintaining a steadfast focus on patient safety and operational excellence.

Job Description:

The Director, Emergency Services is responsible for the strategic planning, clinical operations, and financial accountability of multiple PresNow locations across the Central Delivery System. This leader functions as the primary Emergency Services Leader, providing practice consultation across the continuum of care.

Reporting Relationships: The Director reports to the executive leadership of Urgent and Emergent Services. Direct reports include PresNow Clinical Managers and operational support staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Operations: Plans and directs the operational, financial, and personnel activities of designated PresNow departments to meet PHS strategic goals.

  • Clinical Excellence: Serves as the Nursing Leader for the service line, ensuring nursing practice meets the highest standards of safety and quality.

  • Dyad Leadership: Works in a high-functioning partnership with PresNow Medical Directors to ensure operational effectiveness and provider engagement.

  • Financial Stewardship: Performs operational and capital planning; develops and monitors annual business plans to ensure long-term viability.

  • Performance Improvement: Leads deployment of the PHS improvement model, utilizing scorecards to manage clinical outcomes, customer loyalty, and financial growth.

  • Personnel Management: Handles all aspects of talent management, including hiring, coaching, and empowering professional staff through the delegation of authority and accountability.

Additional Job Description:

Education & Certification:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Business or Healthcare Administration.

  • Preferred: Master's degree (MHA, MBA, or MSN).

  • Clinical Requirement: As the designated Nursing Leader, the candidate must possess the clinical acumen necessary to consult on nursing practice in urgent and emergent settings.

Knowledge and Work Experience:

  • Leadership Experience: 5-10 years of progressive healthcare management experience, specifically in emergency services or high-volume ambulatory care.

  • Financial Acumen: Strong experience in capital budgeting, business plan development, and managing to a P&L.

  • Change Management: A proven ability to lead staff through care delivery changes and technology evaluations.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of regulatory and accreditation requirements for emergency and urgent care environments.

Leadership Competencies:

  • High Professionalism: Acts as a mentor and role model, exemplifying the PHS standards of excellence.

  • Results-Oriented: Biased toward action and accountability, with a focus on "scorecard" performance.

  • Empowerment: A leader who obtains satisfaction from facilitating the success of others through effective delegation.
