Sr. Customer Quality Engineer, Cell Global Quality

Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. We are seeking a highly motivated quality engineer to help continuously drive improvements to 4680 quality by gathering and utilizing data from downstream customers as well as the fleet of 4680 products. This person will track all opportunities to improve quality and drive those improvements to the product and process. They will also work with fleet analytics to build and maintain a model for product warranty and relative failure modes. This person is seasoned in manufacturing quality or reliability engineering for high reliability applications such as Li-ion cells, medical or a similar field with several years' experience.

• Interface with downstream customers, pack, vehicle, and the field. Gather relevant information on applications and performance of 4680 cells
• Own the containment process as well as any potential escapes and be accountable to close actions that ensure issues cannot reoccur
• Investigate and collect data on opportunities for improvements to 4680 quality and quantify impact
• Build fundamental understanding of complex technical challenges (design, manufacturing, integration, etc.) based on data collected
• Using a data driven approach to turn opportunities into actionable tasks that can be deployed to engineering teams, then track those actions to closure
• Own KPI's that describe the performance of the fleet across all in house cell manufacturing
• Participate in warranty modelling based on CAE, lab testing and data from the field
• Drive compliance to industry standards and build fundamental understanding of complex technical challenges (design, manufacturing, integration, etc.) based on data collected
• Conducts detailed risk assessments at the product and manufacturing level to identify opportunity and drives mitigation of risks
• Interface with reliability engineering teams to implement findings from the field, lifetime testing as well as abuse engineering

• Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
• 5+ years' experience in quality, reliability, or relevant field
• Experience working with lithium-ion cells is preferred
• Ability to analyze very large data sets to draw conclusions
• Years of experience using quality problem solving methods such as Six Sigma to root cause, solve and iteratively improve product quality
• Proven application of sampling plans and statistical analysis - AQL, Process Capability, SPC, etc.
• Detail oriented, with the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across levels and functions
• Can demonstrate ability to perform deadlines and perform under high pressure
• Strong data analytical skills using multiple platforms and languages (SQL, Python, Tableau, MATLAB, JMP etc.) and MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
