Job Summary
F3EA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (RF & Modeling) to lead the design, analysis, integration, and evaluation of advanced Blue Water Instrumentation (BWI) capabilities at the Point Mugu Sea Range. This role is central to addressing critical gaps in Over-the-Horizon maritime instrumentation, telemetry relay systems, command-and-control experimentation, and range safety support. The Senior Electrical Engineer will operate at the intersection of RF system design, modeling and simulation, and real-world test execution, translating complex requirements into fielded capabilities. This position requires a technically deep, mission-focused engineer capable of both architecting systems and validating them through experimentation in operational environments. This role is designed for a senior engineer who can bridge advanced RF theory with real-world application, delivering operational capability through rapid R&D, experimentation, and field integration. Success in this position requires both technical depth and the ability to operate effectively in dynamic, mission-driven environments.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of RF and electrical systems supporting BWI instrumentation and telemetry capabilities
- Develop and apply modeling and simulation tools to analyze system performance, link budgets, propagation, and system behavior in maritime environments
- Design and integrate RF communication systems, telemetry links, antennas, and signal processing components
- Conduct RF analysis, including spectrum utilization, interference mitigation, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) considerations
- Support system architecture development, including trade studies, requirements analysis, and performance optimization
- Integrate RF and electrical systems with mechanical, software, and network components within multi-disciplinary prototypes
- Support test planning, execution, and post-test analysis, including data collection and performance validation
- Lead troubleshooting of RF, electrical, and system-level issues during lab and field operations
- Provide technical oversight for prototype development, integration, and installation (I&I) efforts
- Develop and review technical documentation, including design packages, test plans, reports, and briefings
- Collaborate with government stakeholders, range personnel, and multidisciplinary teams to align solutions with mission requirements
- Ensure compliance with safety, spectrum management, and regulatory requirements
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians supporting RF and electrical integration efforts
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians
Required Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master's preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in RF systems, electrical engineering, or related field
- Strong background in RF system design, analysis, and integration
- Experience with modeling and simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink, CST, HFSS, or similar)
- Understanding of wireless communications, telemetry systems, and signal propagation
- Experience performing link budget analysis and system performance modeling
- Ability to work in lab and field environments, including test ranges and maritime conditions
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (Secret or higher)
Preferred Qualifications and Education
- Experience supporting DoD test ranges, RDT&E programs, or instrumentation systems
- Background in maritime RF environments or Over-the-Horizon communications
- Experience with antenna design, RF front-end systems, and spectrum management
- Familiarity with electronic warfare (EW) or contested spectrum environments
- Experience integrating RF systems with network architectures and C2 systems
- Experience supporting test and evaluation (T&E) events and field experimentation
- Knowledge of software-defined radios (SDRs) and advanced communication systems
- Prior military or defense contractor experience
Work authorization/security clearance requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Combination of laboratory, office, and outdoor maritime test environments
- Direct support to range operations and live test events
- Occasional travel may be required in support of test activities
