Electro-Mechanical Technician (Mechatronics) - Point Mugu, CA

F3EA, Inc.
United States, California, Naval Air Station Point Mugu
Apr 17, 2026
Job Summary

F3EA is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technician (Mechatronics) to support the hands-on development, integration, and testing of Blue Water Instrumentation (BWI) capabilities at the Point Mugu Sea Range.

This role directly supports the rapid prototyping and fielding of systems addressing Over-the-Horizon maritime instrumentation, telemetry relay, command-and-control experimentation, and range safety support.

The technician will operate in a high-tempo R&D and test environment, working alongside engineers to build, wire, assemble, integrate, and troubleshoot prototype systems across laboratory and maritime field environments. This position is suited for a technically skilled practitioner who thrives in building real systems-not just supporting them on paper.

This position is built for hands-on execution in an R&D environment, where speed, adaptability, and technical competence directly impact mission success. The role bridges engineering design and real-world implementation-turning concepts into working capability in support of live test and experimentation. Roles and Responsibilities
  • Assemble, integrate, and modify electro-mechanical systems and prototype hardware in support of BWI development efforts
  • Perform wiring, cabling, and connectorization for power, signal, RF, and data systems
  • Support fabrication and integration of mechanical assemblies, enclosures, mounts, and test fixtures
  • Assist engineers with prototype builds, system integration, and iterative design modifications
  • Conduct bench testing, system checkout, and troubleshooting of integrated systems
  • Support installation and integration of systems on test platforms, range infrastructure, and fielded environments
  • Execute preventive maintenance, repair, and calibration of test equipment and prototype systems
  • Assist with test event setup, execution, and teardown, including field support in maritime environments
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and system-level issues during lab and field operations
  • Maintain configuration control of hardware, cables, and components during development cycles
  • Support inventory, property accountability, and kitting of equipment required for test events
  • Document builds, modifications, and test results to support engineering and programmatic requirements
  • Ensure compliance with safety, range, and operational procedures
Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic fabrication equipment
  • Familiarity with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems
  • Comfortable working in lab and field environments, including outdoor and maritime conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative environment
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (Secret or higher)

  • Experience supporting DoD test ranges, RDT&E programs, or field experimentation efforts
  • Background in RF systems, telemetry, or communications equipment
  • Experience with connector types, cable fabrication, and ruggedized system integration
  • Familiarity with maritime or expeditionary systems
  • Experience with additive manufacturing, machining, or light fabrication
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, sensors, or data acquisition hardware
