Description

The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being. We are currently seeking a Assistant Director of Youth Services to work in our Empower Program.



Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Youth Services supports the Director of Youth Services in overseeing daily residential program operations and promoting a safe, structured, and trauma-informed environment guided by the Sanctuary Model. The role provides supervision to Program Support Specialists, participates in the on-call rotation, and supports staffing coordination, training oversight, documentation review, and program compliance. The Assistant Director collaborates with residential leadership and internal departments to support youth programming, staff development, and effective service delivery.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



  1. Apply the Sanctuary Model's trauma-informed principles by fostering safety, emotional awareness, respect for loss, and hope for the future (S.E.L.F.); uphold the Seven Commitments (Nonviolence, Emotional Intelligence, Social Learning, Democracy, Open Communication, Social Responsibility, and Growth & Change) in all interactions with clients, families, and colleagues.
  2. Provides operational support to the Director of Youth Services in the management of daily residential program operations.
  3. Participates in the on-call rotation and responds to program needs during evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
  4. Provides supervision to Program Support Specialists (PSS) and completes required supervision documentation.
  5. Conducts routine house checks to monitor program operations, safety practices, and adherence to agency and regulatory policies.
  6. Reviews program documentation including electronic reports, vehicle logs, house log books, and other required program records for accuracy and compliance.
  7. Serves as a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) trainer and supports staff training and skill development.



Schedule: Monday - Friday 9am-5pm, with rotating on-call responsibilities, Saturday-Sunday OFF.

Qualifications

MINIMUM Qualifications:



  • Associate's Degree in social science, psychology or a related field
  • Child welfare experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • 2 years or more experience working in child welfare.
  • New York State Driver's License in good standing as determined by the Agency.



PREFERRED Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in social science, psychology or a related field
  • 5 years or more experience working in child welfare
