Project Controls Intern (Entry-Level)

Position Summary

This is an entry-level position intended for individuals with little to no direct project controls experience, including those transitioning from other functional areas. Under general supervision, the individual will support routine project controls activities such as scheduling, cost tracking, scope monitoring, and reporting. As experience is gained within a specific discipline, the individual will assist with more complex project controls assignments.

Key Responsibilities



  • Gain exposure to core cost control functions, including development of craft and staff rates, reviewing end-user procedures, and assisting with cost reporting
  • Participate in training and basic exercises using systems such as SAP and other project controls software tools
  • Support Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development and budget setup activities within SAP
  • Assist in the preparation of Project Status Reports, field site Load Boards, and cost reporting tools
  • Support financial tracking activities, including budget monitoring, invoice milestone tracking, timesheet review, and earned value analysis
  • Assist with cost forecasting and tracking of project performance against budget
  • Provide support for project close-out activities, including documentation and financial reconciliation
  • Gain exposure to scheduling fundamentals and assist with maintaining schedules for in-house and field projects

Experience & Education



  • Entry-level to up to three (3) years of experience in project controls or related fields
  • High School diploma required; coursework or training in construction, engineering, or business is a plus

Preferred Skills



  • Basic understanding of project controls concepts such as cost tracking, scheduling, or reporting
  • Familiarity (or willingness to learn) systems such as SAP, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar tools
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $20,000 - $75,000 max. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of union fringes).
