Job Summary
The Class A CDL Driver is responsible for safely transporting fire sprinkler pipe, materials, and installation supplies to customer locations within a designated delivery radius. This role primarily focuses on driving flatbed and tractor-trailer vehicles while also assisting with warehouse operations, loading and unloading materials, and maintaining accurate delivery documentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong customer service skills, dependability, attention to safety, and compliance with all DOT regulations and company procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate Class A commercial vehicles including single axle flatbeds, tandem axle flatbeds, and 48-foot automatic tractor trailers
- Deliver fire sprinkler pipe, materials, and supplies to customer locations within assigned delivery schedules
- Validate delivery directions and maintain communication with supervisors throughout the workday
- Load, unload, and secure materials to ensure safe transportation and compliance with weight regulations
- Obtain customer signatures and maintain accurate delivery documentation
- Review completed deliveries with supervisors for accuracy and completion
- Pick up customer returns and verify returned materials match credit requests
- Pick up local purchase orders and return packing lists as required
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Fuel vehicles and report any maintenance concerns, accidents, violations, or defects promptly
- Assist with warehouse responsibilities including staging orders, loading trucks, and unloading incoming deliveries
- Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety procedures
- Maintain professional customer service and represent the company in a professional manner at all times
- Support company programs, policies, and operational initiatives
- Work overtime as required to meet business demands
Job Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required
- Must possess required state-issued non-excepted interstate self-certification designation
- Minimum of 1 year of CDL driving experience operating the class of vehicles assigned
- Minimum of 1 year holding a valid CDL required
- Ability to operate flatbed trucks and tractor trailers safely and efficiently
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Dependable, punctual, and safety-focused work ethic
- Smartphone proficiency required for communication and operational tasks
- Ability to follow DOT regulations, company procedures, and safety standards
- Ability to lift, load, unload, and secure materials as needed
- Forklift experience preferred
- Moffett experience preferred
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
Work Experience
- Previous commercial delivery driving experience required
- Warehouse or material handling experience preferred
- Experience transporting construction or industrial materials preferred
Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)
- Delivery radius up to approximately 5 hours from the shop location
- Position consists of approximately 90% to 95% driving and 5% to 10% warehouse duties
- Overtime may be required based on operational needs
- Drivers are expected to maintain compliance with company uniform policies and attendance standards
- Position requires regular interaction with customers and job sites throughout the workday
