JOB TITLE: Supt Operations

DEPARTMENT: Generation Operations - Jeffrey Energy Center
LOCATION: St. Mary's, KS
PAY RANGE: $130,300 - $173,700

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. - 4:00 pm (Other hours as required)

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Superintendent of Operations is responsible for providing leadership, direction, training, coaching and budgeting for the Plant Operations. They are expected to lead the operations of the three generating units at Jeffrey Energy Center by effectively utilizing personnel, equipment and other resources in a safe, reliable, efficient, environmentally sound and cost-effective manner in support of the business unit's performance measures.

Specific Duties Include:
* Provide leadership and direction for their department and direct reports.
* Develop, motivate and improve direct reports in the effectiveness and improvement of process and procedure resulting in a safe and effective workforce.
* Strong technical skills and knowledge of plant processes, system operating principles, and control strategies to allow the candidate to direct activities in the operations department.
* Advance the Operational Excellence Culture of sustained improvement over time and performance at a level that is at or superior to "Best in Class".
* Collaborate the development and implementation of assigned/self-created initiatives and process improvements with the Unit Directors and peer superintendents in other departments.
* Define departmental goals and expectations in support of organizational goals. Accountable for their department's performance and budget.
* Perform periodic workflow audits to ensure safety, adherence to company policy, and procedural compliance for meeting and exceeding ever changing Regulatory and Environmental requirements.
* Ensure work is completed on time and with precision. Errors and/or incidents are thoroughly investigated, reported effectively and timely with root-cause analysis performed, and solutions tracked to completion.
* Maintains and regularly communicates current work/project status reports.
* Develop department staffing requirements and budget. Reviews and forecasts plant heat rate and efficiency for their area of responsibility for future years and monthly projections.
* Assist plant staff in identifying and addressing operational problems or equipment modifications for improving Reliability/Operability/Availability/Maintainability (ROAM), efficiency and safety.
* Work with engineering and maintenance to guide/assist in project development to ensure success.
* Set expectations and hold assigned personnel accountable for productivity, work documentation, safety and reliability to instill a high degree of ownership and engagement in their direct reports and downlines.
* Oversee scheduling of supervisory personnel for plant coverage and coordination of manpower needs.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a bachelor's degree in engineering preferred. Eight years of experience in industrial operations and/or maintenance and five years of supervisory/leadership experience is required.

* Excellent leadership skills, with focus and a passion for coaching, mentoring and performance management.
* Possesses a high level of safety awareness and a demonstrated safe work history.
* A Strong understanding of operational best practices driving equipment reliability. Use of predictive analytics and performance testing techniques to identify future equipment availability and maintenance needs to eliminate or reduce production impacts while also taking advantage of market opportunities for critical repairs,
* Strong written and verbal communications skills, excellent interpersonal communication and computer skills.
* Ability to apply leadership skills to leverage direct reports and their technical skills and the ability to discern information and make critical decisions in a timely manner.
* Knowledge of OSHA standards and company policies and safety standards preferred.
* Ability to coach, counsel, and handle conflict, and to remain calm and collected in high stress times. Must be highly organized and be able to create detailed reports.
* Capability to perform the physical activities of the job (includes but is not limited to climbing, color vision, depth perception, hearing, seeing, sitting, standing, talking, walking, outside work, etc.).
* Ability to visualize, analyze and make decisions with limited data; process information in an orderly, accurate and timely manner; and operate within short time frames.
* Capacity to handle multiple priorities in a highly demanding team atmosphere. Ability to simultaneously keep multiple tasks in controlled motion.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
Must possess a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions:
Working conditions will require indoor and outdoor work at a moment's notice in all types of weather. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
