Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide essential technical knowledge and perform engineering work as described below. This position serves as a staff engineer performing engineering assignment of intermediate complexity.

    Under direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Area Lead Engineer, analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of intermediate complexity in accordance with project requirements;
  • Develop and review specifications and design criteria;
  • Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment and systems; and solve technical problems of intermediate complexity;
  • Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients;
  • Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures;
  • Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselines;
  • Establish, control, and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts;
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor submittals;
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes;
  • Create and modify electrical design drawings (e.g., single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagram layouts, raceway, lighting, and grounding).
  • Perform complex system studies (e.g., short circuit, load flow, stability, motor starting, harmonics, relay coordination and ground grid.
  • Develop area classifications and design documents.
  • Develop electrical design documents.
  • Perform electrical calculations such as short circuit, relay coordination, voltage drop, cable de-rating, and cable pulling tension.
  • Prepare motor schematics and wiring diagrams; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. (required)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E.). (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 (5-10 preferred) years of related work experience for Electrical Design Engineer. (required)
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes (including DOE orders).
  • Experience providing EPC services on large industrial projects.
  • 3D modeling and 2D CADD experience.
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALICIATIONS & LOCATION DETAILS:

  • Practical field experience
  • EPC project experience for the following industries:
    • U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency
    • Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program
    • Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
  • Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation
  • Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Intergraph SPI
  • Knowledge of:
    • Electrical codes and standards
    • Electrical power systems
    • Electrical power systems software (e.g., SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), Electrical
    • Transient and Analysis Program (ETAP)
  • Work location is Greenville, SC.
