Ecolab is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer within the Equipment & Connected Solutions team, operating within the Research, Development and Engineering department. This position supports multiple business units of a globally diversified technology and service company, creating a dynamic, challenging, and varied work environment. Challenge yourself to create innovative dispensing, control, and electromechanical systems that improve the user experience, safety, reliability, and value delivered to our customers. This technical-track role is intended for a highly experienced individual contributor who provides advanced mechanical engineering leadership across complex projects, serves as a sought-after subject matter expert, and drives technical innovation from concept through commercialization and post-launch support.

This position entails broad mechanical engineering responsibility across new product development and current product support. You will lead and influence mechanical and system design activities including architecture development, concept generation, detailed design, risk assessment, analysis, component and system-level testing, manufacturing transfer, and post-launch support. The Staff Mechanical Engineer is expected to work with a high degree of independence, solve ambiguous and technically difficult problems, and apply deep expertise with meaningful business impact.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of complex dispensing, control, and electromechanical systems from early concept through commercialization and lifecycle support

  • Serve as a key technical leader on high-impact projects, defining design approaches, decomposing complex problems, and guiding teams through technically challenging decisions

  • Translate customer, business, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements into robust design solutions, and specifications

  • Plan and execute mechanical engineering activities including concept development, design analysis, tolerance assessment, risk mitigation, prototype evaluation, and verification testing

  • Lead investigation and resolution of complex technical issues related to performance, reliability, manufacturability, quality, and cost

  • Drive design improvements and innovation for both pipeline and launched products, identifying opportunities to improve customer value, safety, and operational efficiency

  • Provide deep expertise in mechanical design fundamentals, including plastics, fabricated parts, assemblies, mechanisms, and design for manufacturability

  • Collaborate closely with systems, electrical, software, chemistry, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, supply chain, and marketing partners to deliver integrated product solutions

  • Work with external suppliers and manufacturing partners on component selection, design reviews, tooling and part approvals, pilot builds, troubleshooting, and production readiness

  • Support and influence technical reviews, qualification strategies, risk assessments, and manufacturing transfer activities to ensure successful launches

  • Support releasing and modifying equipment specifications through established change processes including ECR and ECO workflows

  • Act as a technical mentor and resource to other engineers, helping elevate engineering capability, design quality, and problem-solving across the organization

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline and 8+ years of related experience; or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline and 5+ years of related experience; or PhD and 3+ years of related experience

  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering for new product development, product support, or related technical development roles

  • Demonstrated ability to lead or act as a key technical contributor on projects of significant scope and complexity with high business impact

  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling and drawing creation using SolidWorks or equivalent tools

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad experience across multiple facets of the product development process, including concept development, detailed design, testing, manufacturing transfer, launch, and post-launch support

  • Deep knowledge of plastic component design, fabricated parts, assemblies, mechanisms, and manufacturing processes

  • Experience with engineering analysis tools and methods, including tolerance analysis, finite element analysis, and structured problem solving

  • Experience developing test methods, qualification strategies, and verification plans, and interpreting data to drive decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with considerable latitude in determining technical approaches and resolving ambiguous problems

  • Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring, design review leadership, best practice development, or cross-project influence

  • Strong analytical, decision-making, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • High attention to detail and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities across cross-functional teams

  • Knowledge of product safety, regulatory, and manufacturing considerations for equipment and electromechanical products

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range

The base salary range for this position is $120,500.00 - $180,700.00. This position is eligible for annual bonus pay based on performance, per plan terms. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
