ThePeer Recovery Coachwillprovidenon-clinical services intended to aid patients inestablishingrecovery fromhigh riskofdependentalcohol and drug use problems. Works with a team at a MedStar Health Facility thatprovidespeer support and motivation to encourage patients who are seeking treatment for alcohol or drug dependency and addiction issues.Assistsin completing referrals to treatment services and developing service plans to promote successful linkage to treatment services. Services will be provided in the MedStar Health Facility orED (Emergency Department)withappropriate follow-up.

Primary Duties:

  • Acts as peer support throughout the hospitalization and post-discharge, asappropriate toattaingoals.Acts as a resource to other clinical team members on recovery support.Assistspatientsand family with understanding how toutilizethese community services.Assistspatients in linking to community support services and substance treatment services including securingappointmentsand transportation.

  • Completes required documentation and other reports.Notifiespatient'snurse before visiting the patient.

  • Conducts brief interventions to patients that screen positive for alcohol and/or drug use. Consults with nursing staff, social work asrequested, even ifpatient doesnot screen positive.

  • Identifiespatient'shistory of drug/alcohol use, treatment history, motivation to change behavior and other needs for community support services.Identifiespatient'sreadiness to change and use motivational interviewing techniques and other communication skills to support a plan for reducing oreliminatingharmful drug and/or alcohol use.Models coping techniques and self-help strategies.

  • Provides family members with recovery support materials. Provides telephone outreach to patients toassistwith linkages and continued peer support.Telephonestreatment providers to verifypatientshowed up foranappointment;and follow-up by telephone with any patient that misses an appointment.Works with ED staff and socialworkerstoidentifycommunity support services.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Must be actively engaged in his/her own recovery program with at least three years of personal recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use with no relapses.

  • Peer Recovery Specialist certification within 180 Dayspreferred.


This position has a hiring range of

USD $19.55 - USD $34.25 /Hr.
