Founded in 1855, Collins is family-owned and produces softwood and hardwood products at their facilities in Chester, California, Lakeview, Oregon and Kane, Pennsylvania. In Chester, Collins has the Builders Supply retail hardware and building materials store. Collins is highly respected for their sustainable forest management, practiced across their 370,000 acres of FSC-certified lands in California, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.

Position Summary:

The Production Supervisor assists the manager to oversee daily operations across the softwood sawmill, ensuring safe, efficient, and highquality production. This role with the other supervisors, coordinates to meet volume, uptime, and quality targets while maintaining strict safety and environmental standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Production Oversight - Supervise daily mill operations which may include log breakdown, sawing, edging, trimming, drying, and finishing to meet production goals.
  • Safety Leadership - Enforce OSHA and company safety standards, conduct safety audits, lead toolbox talks, and ensure incident reporting and corrective actions.

    • train employees in safe equipment operation;
    • motivate employees to lead the operation to superior safety performance;
    • engage in continuing education and improvement to processes and work procedures; and
    • lead safety behavior by example.


  • Team Management - Supervise shift leads and production employees; manage staffing, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Quality Control - Ensure lumber meets grade specifications; partner with QC teams to resolve defects and maintain grading accuracy.
  • Equipment Coordination - Work with maintenance to schedule repairs, minimize downtime, and ensure proper operation of saws, conveyors, kilns, and materialhandling systems.
  • Continuous Improvement - Identify bottlenecks, implement process improvements, and support lean/5S initiatives.
  • Reporting & Planning - Track production metrics, downtime, yields, and labor utilization; prepare shift and weekly reports.
  • Regulatory Compliance - Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and operational regulations.
  • Data & Reporting - Ability to analyze production data and use mill management systems.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.



Position Requirements: Must meet position requirements to be considered a candidate for this position.



  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older and have earned a high school diploma.
  • Prior experience in a sawmill or wood products manufacturing, including supervisory experience.
  • Understanding of sawmill machinery, softwood lumber grades, and production flow.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Anticipate needs, think critically, and offer solutions to problems with a high level of professionalism.
  • Measures how effectively the mill runs by combining availability, performance, and quality.
  • Site attendance during scheduled shift is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check, a pre-employment drug screening, and a pre-employment motor vehicle report.


Environmental Conditions:

Temperature controlled office environment.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, and a face shield.
