About the Opportunity
The Lead Simulation Education Specialist facilitates the implementation of healthcare simulation educational activities for the WVU Health Sciences simulation program. Namely, David and Jo Ann Shaw Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) center.

What You'll Do
Policy/Procedure and Implementation
* Designs innovative ideas to improve the technology and development of STEPS.
* Assists with the strategic oversight, planning and goal setting for STEPS education programs.
* Essential contributor in strategic planning process.
* Collaborates with management and faculty in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of new courses, scenarios, and simulation tools.
* Assists faculty and instructors with development and implementation of simulation educational activities.
* Plays an integral role in obtaining and maintaining center accreditation.
* Critical member of STEPS leadership team, and the role of developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures.
Educational Responsibilities
* Plans, coordinates, teaches, and evaluated varied educational courses.
* As requested, teaches activities for schools and other entities.
* Conducts or assists in conducting debriefing sessions.
* Performs needs assessment independently or in conjunction with faculty to develop future educational offerings.
* Assists faculty and other instructors in writing educational objectives.
* In conjunctions with Assistant Director of Education develops educational offerings, evaluation tools, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Works with Manager of Standardized Patient program with activity coordination and as needed, training of standardized patients.
* Serves as liaison between STEPS and other departments/agencies.
Operational
* Manages daily operations related to educational activities within STEPS to include oversight of other simulation specialists, setting up equipment and rooms, testing and running scenarios, and troubleshooting as needed.
* Oversees support for faculty to enable their completion of educational activities.
* Oversees staffing to ensure support for learners during their activities in STEPS.
* Ensures STEPS is maintained as a clean and safe learning environment.
* Conducts tours and in-services new faculty as requested.
* Oversees subordinates and maintains proficiency in existing and emerging technologies related to healthcare simulation.
* Oversight of daily scheduling to ensure needs are met by all entities utilizing STEPS.
* Serves as superuser for Learning Management system (LearningSpace)
* Obtains and maintains certification as Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.
Technical
* Oversees, troubleshoots, and maintains software and hardware for Learning Management system (Learningspace)
* Oversees and supervises maintenance and repairs of all simulation equipment.
* Serves as liaison and main contact between manufacturers and STEPS.
* Assists faculty, staff, and learners in the utilization of computer and electronic equipment during activities in STEPS.
Administrative
* Supports mission/vision of STEPS and serves as liaison between reports and Director of STEPS.
* Integral member of STEPS leadership team.
* Oversees orientation for direct reports and other staff as appropriate.
* Works with Asst. Dir. of Education in the areas of orientation, faculty compliance, and QA/QI.
* Maintains educational records generated by simulators for learners as appropriate.
* Main liaison between vendors and educators of simulation educational equipment.
* Fosters collaboration with other groups and agencies with similar interests in order to elevate program.
Fiscal
* Serves as resource for Director in planning and implementing budget.
* Works with Office administrator in ordering and purchases related to simulation equipment and supplies.
* Serves as liaison between STEPS, faculty, and educators related to fees for STEPS usage.
* Obtains quotes from vendors for equipment purchases, contracts, warranties, and repairs.
Supervision
* Direct oversight of subordinates to include orientation, daily operations, professional development, guidance and training, and performance improvement.
* Recruits and participated in hiring and orientation of STEPS staff as appropriate.
* Performs evaluations of subordinates and others as appropriate.
* Oversees daily activities and serves as onsite supervisor in absence of Director.
Research
* Member of research committee.
* Participates in simulation research, mentors faculty, assists in writing and publishing, and presents at appropriate venues.
* Assists Researcher in data collection and dissemination.
* Assists in development and conducting research projects related to simulation education.
