HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Specialist to join our Power Generation team. As a Senior Mechanical Specialist, you will be working on projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. Primary duties typically involve leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring, and communication of project status, and executing mechanical engineering tasks for detailed design and owner's engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.

Preferred candidates will have significant experience with utility-scale power generation systems and equipment, and proven ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects. Typical deliverables developed by this individual and/or their team include construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates. Significant experience with the design and specification of power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects is preferred.

Project roles will vary based on the size and type of the project, as well as the capabilities, experience, and preferred focus of the engineer. Project roles will typically consist of lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager and may include project manager. Most tasks will be done in a collaborative manner involving engineers and designers from several other disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or closely related field

  • Master's degree in business or engineering

  • Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise

  • Design experience with simple and combined cycle power generation facilities

  • Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm

  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments

  • Excellent communication and analytical skills

  • Willing to mentor less experienced engineers

  • Willingness to obtain Professional Engineering Licensure

  • Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget

  • Extensive experience in project execution of Power Generation projects

  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)

  • Local candidates preferred

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 15 years of engineering experience in the discipline to be supported
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline to be supported
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported
  • Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
