MDS/Miller Dyer Spears seeks a full-time Project Manager with 8-12 years’ experience in all phases of planning, design, documentation, and specifications. We are looking for a registered architect who thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate possesses strong design, technical, client management and project management capabilities. This position will have the opportunity to provide mentorship to less experienced staff and to be mentored by long-tenured architects and designers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all phases of project delivery on small- to medium-scale projects, from programming and concept development through documentation and construction administration.
- Collaborate with Principal-in-Charge to define project vision, develop fee proposals, coordinate consultants, and align design ambition with project goals and resources. Strategically manage project budgets, schedules, and programs.
- Serve as a trusted primary client contact, building long-term relationships and ensuring successful project delivery that meets design, budgetary, and schedule goals.
- Apply technical knowledge of building systems and construction methods to ensure design integrity, technical excellence, and quality in design development and construction documentation.
- Apply sound judgment, innovative thinking, and strategic foresight to solve complex design and construction challenges in existing building and new construction.
- Serve as a representative of the firm in client meetings, public forums, and engagements with regulatory agencies, upholding and promoting the firm’s reputation for design excellence and technical precision.
- Mentor, inspire, and guide project teams, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and adherence to the firm’s standards of quality and design excellence.
We operate on a hybrid work model. New staff are required to work in the office at least three days per week during their first 90 days of employment. The position requires the ability to travel regularly to local job sites and client locations.
Qualifications
- 8-12 years of relevant professional experience, including demonstrated success as a project manager or assistant project manager
- Registered Architect in Massachusetts or licensed architect with the ability to seek reciprocity in Massachusetts
- Demonstrated knowledge in sustainable design strategies; LEED Accreditation and /or WELL Accreditation a plus
- Ability to lead a collaborative team
- Proven ability to manage project deadlines for self and for a project team
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills; comfort coordinating consultants and communicating directly with clients.
- Demonstrated proficiency with building codes, accessibility regulations, specifications, building and engineering systems
- Versatile computer skills: Revit experience preferred
- Experience working with public agencies (MSBA, DCAMM, City of Boston, etc.) is helpful, but not required
