Job Summary:

Utilizes multiple quantitative and qualitative datasets from a variety of sources and interprets results using various techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining. Assists in the design, development and implementation of business solutions partnering with clients to identify analytical requirements. Compiles reports, charts, and tables based on established statistical methods.

The Center for Neighborhood Engaged Research & Science (CORNERS), housed within the Institute for Policy Research (IPR) at Northwestern University, is seeking a Research Data Analyst Associate to join our team. CORNERS conducts Neighborhood Science for Neighborhood Solutions, leveraging the transformative power of networks to help community and civic partners build safer, healthier neighborhoods. CORNERS provides partners across Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois with first class, actionable research that leverages rigorous scholarship to inform practitioners and policymakers impacting neighborhoods nationwide. The Research Data Analyst Associate will support a diverse portfolio of applied research projects across the center. Responsibilities may vary dependent on candidate skill set and project needs.

This is a one-year term position. Opportunity for renewal will be based on performance and available funding.

Specific Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Develop standardized templates, policies, and procedures for internal and external reporting.
  • Designs and prepares documentation for qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

Development

  • Completes a variety of statistical analyses using appropriate data and software
  • Interprets results of analyses for use in reports and presentations

Performance

  • Completes data cleaning and organizes data files for analysis.
  • Reviews data and Identifies quality issues

Supervises

  • Provides support and mentorship of more junior staff, for example research assistants and students

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with social science research methods, studies, and analyses.

  • Ability to seek resources and learn new analytical techniques.

  • Flexible and self-motivated, with strong ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and work in teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in applied social science research setting.

  • Coursework in research methods and/or analyses, including spatial statistics, network analysis, qualitative research, causal inference, meta-analysis, and/or other social science research.

  • Master's degree in relevant field, for example social sciences, statistics, public health, social work, economics, or other relevant field of study.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Experience with range of statistical techniques and software commonly used in social science research.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $57,000-$72,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
