Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) team. This position provides specialized, high-quality nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular patients, including those recovering from complex cardiac surgeries and requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and life-support therapies. The Registered Nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care while maintaining patient safety and clinical excellence in a fast-paced critical care environment.

Job Responsibilities




  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular patients in the CVICU.



  • Monitor, assess, and respond to changes in patient condition using advanced critical care nursing skills.



  • Care for post-operative open heart patients, including CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR cases.



  • Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and temporary pacemakers.



  • Utilize advanced hemodynamic monitoring equipment, including Swan-Ganz catheters, FloTrak systems, arterial lines, and Impella devices.



  • Operate and monitor intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP) and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) using the Prismax system.



  • Administer medications, blood products, and other therapies in accordance with physician orders and established clinical protocols.



  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.



  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in accordance with facility policies.



  • Float to assigned intensive care and intermediate care units as required to meet patient care needs.




Job Requirements




  • Minimum of 2 years of current CVICU experience required.



  • Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience may be considered with initial CVICU training.



  • Experience with fresh open heart recovery, including CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR patients required.



  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT using the Prismax system, or experience managing fresh heart cases required.



  • Demonstrated proficiency with Swan-Ganz catheters, FloTrak monitoring, temporary pacemakers, arterial lines, chest tubes, and post-operative open heart recovery.



  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.



  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.



  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.



  • Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and communication skills.



  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity critical care environment.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1 to 1:2; ratios may vary when floating.



  • First-time travelers are accepted.



  • Local candidates are accepted.



  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage is required, as applicable.



  • All requested time off and scheduling accommodations must be submitted and approved prior to offer acceptance.



  • Travelers are required to float to all Intensive Care Units (ICUs), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Emergency Department (ED) ICU holding areas, and all Intermediate Care (IMC) units as needed.



  • Patient population includes fresh open heart patients, ventilated patients, patients with chest tubes and lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
