Job Summary The Director, Procurement - Engineering & Railroad Materials leads strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, contract execution, and category strategy for critical railroad materials and related services. This role partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, and field leadership to ensure reliable supply, disciplined cost management, strong supplier performance, and practical procurement solutions that support safe, efficient railroad operations. The Director will lead a team of sourcing professionals, build long-term category plans, negotiate complex agreements, and develop talent capable of delivering measurable value to CSX.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide guidance to direct reports and manage strategic direction for the engineering procurement team including establishing and implementing long-term goals for the department promoting effectiveness and efficiency
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure consistent long-term access to vital services and materials including fielding related questions, training, policy and procurement interpretation and alignment with key stakeholders
- Manage CSX internal relationships to build support and coordination on strategic efforts
- Manage the prioritization of contract negotiations as CSX progresses their engineering efficiency efforts
- Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
3 or more years of experience in Procurement, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations or other closely related commercial business area
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate Degree
- 5 or more years of experience in Procurement, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations or other closely related commercial business area
- Experience sourcing railroad materials, capital-project support, field services, or other operationally critical categories
- 3 or more years of supervisory experience
Knowledge and Skills
- Project management skills including ability to translate business demand, supplier markets, operational constraints, and financial goals into practical sourcing solutions
- Strong negotiation skills including understanding commercial terms, competitive bidding, total cost analysis and contract governance
- Experience with sourcing, contract lifecycle management, ERP, analytics, and/or tools such as Oracle, PowerBI, Tableau or similar platforms
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership/executive audiences
- Knowledge of sourcing strategies and associated legal requirements
- Ability to coach, prioritize, develop teams while creating a high-performance procurement culture
