This position plans and oversees human resource services for the Math, Statistics and Computer Science (MSCS) department. Manages day-to-day HR and payroll administration, develops, implements, and maintains HR policies and procedures, and serves as the primary liaison with internal and external academic and HR units.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Oversees employment processes for faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Advises on HR requirements, prepares offer letters, and processes HR transactions, including new hires, reappointments, job record changes, separations, and I-9s.
  • Welcomes incoming employees through a comprehensive onboarding process.
  • Manages full-cycle recruitment for staff, graduate assistants, student employees, and extra help positions.
  • Serves as the departmental resource on search procedures and coordinates required approvals, interviews and campus visits.
  • Maintains job descriptions in JDXpert and the MSCS Handshake account.
  • Manages high-volume visa sponsorship processes for international faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Coordinates required documentation with the Office of International Services, assists with IDs and Social Security cards, and supports resolution of complex visa issues.
  • Oversees biweekly and monthly payroll processes, including timesheet approval, payroll adjustments, leave balance reviews, labor redistributions, and overcompensation payments.
  • Trains new hires on payroll procedures and manages leave reporting.
  • Provides input to the business team for payroll reconciliations.
  • Serves as liaison with university and college units (LAS HR, Payroll, Benefits, Access & Equity, etc.).
  • Attends meetings and training; stays current on University, State and Federal regulations.
  • Reports relevant information and issues to management.
  • Serves as a consultant on HR matters within the department, including employee relations issues.
  • Advises on disciplinary actions and other confidential matters. Processes and manages leaves of absence.
  • Documents procedures, prepares planning reports, and advises department leadership.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
  2. Five years of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing visa sponsorship processes.
  • Experience working in higher education.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage high-volume, detail-oriented work across multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and complex HR situations independently while exercising sound judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
