Summary: The Clinical Manager for System Outpatient and Retail Pharmacy is responsible for leading clinical and operational decision-making and driving improvements in patient care across a network of outpatient and retail pharmacies including pharmacies located within hospitals, specialty clinics, and retail sites. This role coordinates departmental operational and clinical initiatives through Pharmacist Coordinators across outpatient and retail pharmacy practices. The position implements financial and operational plans that support service growth, regulatory compliance, patient experience, workforce development, and access to pharmacy services. This position provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for system outpatient and retail pharmacies and directly supervises and supports Pharmacist Coordinators responsible for the day-to-day operations of assigned pharmacy locations. The Clinical Manager plays a key role in meeting the needs of patients, providers, and team members through financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and growth of outpatient pharmacy services across the system, in alignment with UNC Health's vision, mission, and core standards of behavior. This position reports to the System Director of Retail and Outpatient Pharmacies. Experience managing multiple sites and teams preferred. Experience providing and supporting pharmacy clinical services and programs preferred. Responsibilities: 1. Develops, implements, and maintains processes for the smooth operation of system outpatient and retail pharmacy sites. Anticipates and leads the fulfillment of pharmacy clinical and operational service needs. 2. Provides program level management as well as shift specific management in areas of responsibility. Performs supervisory responsibilities through selection, training, evaluating, counseling, and corrective action of team. Provides professional development and coaching to team members to ensure performance and behavioral expectations are met. 3. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders through active participation in pharmacy department committees, multidisciplinary hospital committees, clinic partnerships and professional association committees. 4. Oversees strategic planning and innovation to meet institutional, departmental, patient care, and regulatory requirements. Manages capital and operating budgets for individual cost centers while ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies at the federal and state levels. 5. Proactively seeks opportunities to improve performance and enhance customer satisfaction and implements processes to minimize waste. Builds and maintains relationships with key individuals and solicits feedback on pharmacy performance. Develops policies, standard operating procedures, and clinical decision support in response to clinical, operational, and financial needs. Ensures appropriate communication and staff education precede the implementation of new policies and guidelines. 6. Provides clinical or operational leadership through in-service programs and/or publications for health care providers on appropriate drug use, the medication use system, and/or drug policy. 7. Provides clinical and operational pharmacist services to patients via monthly staffing at sites to maintain expertise in operations. 8. Teaches students, residents, and new pharmacy staff, and participates in scholarly activities. 9. Ensures and audits compliance with federal, state, local, and institutional policies, procedures, standards, and regulations. 10. Supports the development of budgets and financial stewardship goals that uphold safe practices within the medication use process. Monitors financial and productivity performance and addresses variances in area of responsibility. 11. Demonstrates clinical or operational expertise through publications, presentations, committee activities, and/or program development aimed at patient care and advancement of pharmacy practice.
