About the Role

The Actuarial Analyst III at Horizon BCBS of New Jersey plays a key role in supporting financial and actuarial decision-making through advanced data analysis, modeling, and forecasting. This position is responsible for performing trend analysis, developing forecasting models, and analyzing complex datasets to support financial reporting and utilization monitoring, including risk score analyses. The analyst also contributes to pricing strategy by developing models and supporting rate filings and new product pricing initiatives.

The role requires strong technical expertise in actuarial methods and statistical analysis, along with advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with database tools and programming languages such as Access and SAS. Candidates must have an ASA designation and at least four years of relevant actuarial or statistical experience. Success in this role depends on strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Perform or support actuarial analytics on risk adjustable lines of business, including ACA, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid.

  • Perform or support CMS-HCC and HHS-HCC risk score projections, including RATP, MA MYRA/FYRA accruals, and RADV financial impacts.

  • Perform or support data analytics and reporting to inform risk adjustment operations, strategy, submissions, and vendor performance.

  • Perform or support financial metrics pertaining to risk adjustment performance, including but not limited to intervention ROI.

  • Collect and analyze data to use for financial and utilization reporting and monitoring.

  • Support pricing and forecast efforts, including ACA pricing and MA Bid submissions.

What You Bring

Education/Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably within Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Sciences or a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience.

  • Requires 4+ years of actuarial and/or statistics experience and attainment of Associate level in the Society of Actuaries (ASA).

Additional licensing, certifications, registrations:

  • ASA Certification required.

Knowledge:

  • Requires expert knowledge of Excel.

  • Prefers working knowledge of Access or other database application.

  • Prefers experience with SAS or other programming language.

  • Requires knowledge of data analysis and Actuarial principles.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires good oral and written communication skills.

  • Requires strong analytical thinking.

  • Requires strong mathematical skill and statistical analysis abilities.

  • Requires good judgment and problem solving skills.

Salary Range:

$102,600 - $140,070

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. This range has been created in good faith based on information known to Horizon at the time of posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case.
