OVERVIEW

The greenhouse technician is responsible for executing a range of tasks essential to the efficient daily operations of the greenhouse, ensuring timely delivering of plants in accordance with planned quantities, and established quality standards. Among other duties, the greenhouse technician will perform practices in all areas of plant cultivation within the greenhouse such as planting, irrigation, fertilization, trimming, pest and disease management, maintenance of equipment and keeping a clean and orderly work environment.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Plant care: Watering, fertilizing, trimming and staking plants as needed. Adjusting greenhouse systems to regulate temperature, humidity, lighting, and ventilation.
  • Crop monitoring: Monitor plant cultivation to ensure optimal growing conditions, including temperature, humidity, light and nutrition.
  • Pest and disease control: Scouting plants for signs of pests, diseases, or nutritional deficiencies. Apply appropriate treatments, including biological controls or pesticides according to established safety guidelines.
  • Quality control: Verify that plants meet specified quality standards. Calibrate instruments and sensors as required.
  • Maintenance: Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on equipment such as irrigation, plumbing, greenhouse structures, lighting and cooling systems, fans, and environmental control devices to maintain proper operation.
  • Record keeping and reporting: Maintain detailed records of plant growth, watering schedules, fertilizer applications, crop performance and other essential data.
  • Plant deliveries: Prepare plants for shipment and organize deliveries in accordance with field planting requirements.
  • Support: Collaborate with the Greenhouse Production Supervisor on production planning and provide supervision to staff members.
  • Research & development: Perform greenhouse trials to improve internal processes and increase efficiencies
  • Health and safety: Maintain workplace safety by ensuring all operations comply with health and safety regulations and keeping up-to-date with training in pesticide application, irrigation, and related safety procedures.

  • Ability to follow protocols, and demonstrate good observational skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to use technology such as computers, mobile devices, remote sensors and greenhouse management software (Invitro Soft)
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Forklift operator certification preferred
  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish)



EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:



  • High school diploma or GED
