Wisconsin Public Service Corp, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Meter Apprentice 1 or higher in our Rhinelander, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by Local No. 420 IUOE.

Job Summary

A Meter Apprentice Installs, tests, maintains and removes electric metering equipment in a safe and efficient manner, and ensures favorable customer company relations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Install, test, maintain, and remove distribution, transmission, substation, and communication metering equipment operated at 600 volts or less:
    • install, test, maintain, and remove meters and metering transformers and other types of metering equipment
    • install and remove recording ammeters, varmeters, voltmeters, and wattmeters
    • calibrate watt hour standards
    • test instrument transformers
    • program, read, and maintain time of use, demand, and load survey solid state meters and recorders
  • Plan daily jobs and pre load required materials
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with construction standards, company procedures, and safety rules
  • Ensure favorable company customer relations are maintained
  • Repair and adjust voltage regulator and capacitor controls
  • Perform switching operations of distribution, transmission, communication, and substation circuits:
    • communicate with system operating
    • obtain monthly substation readings.
  • Assist in prompt restoration of electric service during emergency outages:
    • investigate condition
    • patrol transmission, distribution and communication lines
  • Perform various customer services:
    • investigate billing and voltage inquiries
    • investigate radio, television, and communication equipment interference problems and make repairs when necessary
    • read and turn on and off electric meters
    • read gas meters
  • Maintain records and prepare reports in accordance with company accounting and operating procedures:
    • complete Vehicle Defect Reports
    • complete accident reports
    • utilize meter records system
    • utilize CIS system
    • utilize MMS system
    • complete forms as required for other duties
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and the following five Associates Degree curriculum courses: Algebra Computations, Basic Trigonometry, DC Fundamentals, AC Fundamentals, and Communication Skills I. Courses combining these concepts will also be accepted.
  • Valid Drivers License

End Date: 07/30/2026

Minimum Posting Range: $41.63

Maximum Posting Range: $57.37

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
