The Assistant Athletics Director or Director of Fan Engagement and Marketing provides strategic and effective leadership of fan experience, marketing, ticket sales and operations, community engagement, hospitality, and other special events within the Colgate Athletics Department. The position, reporting to the Deputy Athletics Director for External Operations, will be the primary architect of the Colgate Raiders fan experience with the goal of creating an exciting atmosphere that captivates fans and builds lifelong relationships with the Colgate Community. The position will be responsible for developing innovative strategies and optimizing the fan experience.
This role is highly visible and requires an individual with outstanding interpersonal skills. The successful candidate should be assertive and confident yet approachable and respectful, with a proven track record in building collaborative relationships across campus and in the community.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Strategic and effective leadership over the fan experience, marketing, ticket sales and operations, community engagement, hospitality, and other special events for the Colgate Athletics Department.
- Development of a comprehensive fan engagement strategy with innovative and unique approaches to create an exciting atmosphere at all Colgate Athletics events.
- Lead planning, coordination, and implementation of fan engagement and marketing plans, including but not limited to, promotions, giveaways, in-game crowd engagement, music, and video production.
- Ensure positive relationships between the Athletics department and key stakeholders, to include alumni, local community, fans, parents, faculty, and other University constituents. This includes,
- Building effective relationships with Colgate students and fans that promote a fan-centered game day culture for all sports; and
- Effectively collaborating with campus and community constituents in support of marketing and promotion efforts.
- Development, production and execution of creative concepts for ticket sales of all sports in accordance with strategic plans, including printed, digital and video elements.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Deputy Athletics Director for External Operations and the Director of Communications & Creative Media on a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy, to include cultivating fan engagement on all Colgate Athletics social media sites including, but not limited to, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X, etc.
- Execution of effective marketing for promotions and events via all channels and media (e.g., colgateathletics.com, social media, print, electronic media) in collaboration with the Director of Communications & Creative Media.
- Oversight of the athletic marketing budget. Must exercise independent discretion on all purchases and budgetary decisions for athletics marketing and fan engagement unit, as well as ticket sales and operations in alignment with divisional priorities and policies.
- Assist the Deputy Athletics Director for External Relations in generating leads to assist in the cultivation of corporate sponsorships, and aid in the execution of partnership agreements in accordance with overall corporate partner strategy.
- As directed, required to effectively support athletics fundraising efforts.
Additional supervisory responsibilities include:
- Oversight, supervision, and cultivation of the Colgate Pep Band and Pom Team partnerships.
- Effective oversight, supervision, and management of the Marketing and Ticketing Coordinator and a host of undergraduate interns, as assigned. Ensures selection and hiring of high quality employees; ensures appropriate distribution of work assignments and high quality of employee work product; ensures fair, accurate and timely performance assessments and feedback to include identifying areas for professional development and documenting and conducting disciplinary measures, as needed. Responsible for ensuring fair and accurate decisions regarding employment status (e.g., hire, promotion, salary increases, termination); ensures the creation of effective opportunities and programs for employee mentoring, development and sustained performance.
- The Assistant Athletics Director role will include additional varsity sport supervision responsibilities, including the continued evaluation of assigned varsity sport programs through effective oversight, communication and collaboration with Head Coach(es).

Requirements
| Professional Experience/ Qualifications |
- Two or more years of collegiate athletics, professional sports, or other comparable marketing and/or fan engagement experience

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Five or more years of collegiate athletics, professional sports, or other comparable marketing and/or fan engagement experience
- Previous experience in direct supervision of assigned staff, which may include student interns and workers
- Previous experience as a sport administrator for a NCAA varsity sport program
