The Exhibition and Program Assistant Fellow supports exhibitions, public programs, educational initiatives, communications, and visitor engagement for the Van Every/Smith Galleries. Working closely with the Director/Curator, this position assists in the logistical execution of exhibitions, artist visits, lectures, receptions, tours, and community engagement activities. The Exhibition and Programs Assistant Fellow serves as a key liaison between the galleries, campus partners, visiting artists, and community audiences while helping create meaningful experiences with art. Essential Functions
- Exhibitions Support
- Assist with exhibition logistics including arranging shipping, assisting with installation, deinstallation, art handling, lighting, vinyl cutting, etc. in the Galleries and other campus spaces.
- Coordinate logistics for incoming exhibition loans with Collection Coordinator.
- Maintain exhibition records.
- Assist in coordinating logistics of public events including receptions, artist visits, lectures and other and exhibition-related activities. Includes booking travel, accommodations, scheduling and assisting with set up, facilitating catering/meals, etc.
- Document, archive, and post programs and artist lectures through photography and video; caption, edit, and post on social media and the Van Every/Smith Galleries' YouTube Channel.
- Assist with planning and hosting activities related to the Art Collection Advisory Committee, including annual campus meeting, trip planning for alumni art trips, and subcommittee meetings.
- Coordinate work study students/gallery interns (in cooperation with director/curator) to facilitate the efficient completion of these responsibilities
- Communications & Outreach
- Coordinate in-house promotional materials including designing some in-house posters, exhibition guides and other printed and digital gallery resources. Updating Screenclound and sending out digital gallery signs; Coordinate in-house mailing and distribution of printed publicity such as posters and mailers; Update Wildcat Sync.
- Update website, assist with development of social media content, and other communications/press
- Visitor Services & Operations
- Coordinate intern schedules for gallery coverage; assist when there are gaps in the schedule.
- Update email and print mailing lists
- Provide surveys for events; review visitor survey and event data
- Other
- Provide support during events.
- Assist director with interns and student-centered programming
- Support educational programs as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in art, art history, museum studies, arts administration, education, or related field.
- Must be a recent college graduate - Class of 2026, 2025 or 2024
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Interest in contemporary art and public engagement.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference given to Davidson College graduates
- Experience in galleries, museums, arts organizations, or higher education.
- Experience with social media and digital communications.
- Experience with WordPress.
- Experience coordinating events and public programs.
- Experience working with students and diverse audiences.
