What You'll Do

Participate in major engineering projects, site upgrades, and major site modifications. Safely coordinate EIC design and drawing package for execution, while remaining on schedule and on budget.

  • Develop key engineering deliverables such as: electrical construction drawings, and control wiring schematics. Design and code PLC based control systems. Controls engineering design accordance with project requirements.

  • Act as the technical resource for the process controls design of major Engineering projects. Oversee electrical and controls engineering deliverables on projects to ensure technical quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Communicate effectively with the engineering teams, project stakeholders, and customers.

  • Demonstrate ownership and seek accountability to deliver results. Contribute to a culture of mutual respect, trust, accountability, and teamwork.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and lead by example.

  • Ensure design compliance with applicable external regulatory requirements, company engineering standards and HSE requirements for the manufacture of explosives and hazardous materials.

  • Direct third-party engineering design resources to produce deliverables that meet or exceed expectations. Direct various contractors and trades in field, providing guidance and answering questions on the fly during construction and start-up.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, OR Demonstrated equivalent experience

  • Minimum 8 years relevant industry experience as controls engineer (mineral processing/mining, industrial chemical manufacturing plants, oil & gas, etc.)

  • Proven track record in detailed process design, drafting specifications, equipment and component selection, and system installation.

  • Experience and capability in the development of electrical and controls engineering packages and specifications, including generating wiring schematics, Control panel design, and general arrangement drawings.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.

  • Experience reading and working from P&ID's

  • Design and coding of DCS, PLC and HMI

  • Proven leadership. Able to motivate and drive teams to maximum performance and positive project outcomes.

  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, capable of seeing both the big picture and the fine details. Shows enthusiasm and a desire to constantly improve and challenge the status quo to deliver value.

  • Possesses strong knowledge and application of best engineering practices, standards and codes as well as health and safety codes.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and be flexible with several projects in progress simultaneously with multiple teams.

  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to connect and interact with people at all levels, including engineers, managers, and front-line employees.

  • Hands-on experience relating to plant construction, equipment installation, commissioning and process troubleshooting. Operational experience would be an asset.

  • Working knowledge of process instrumentation and controls.

  • Travel may be necessary based on the needs of the business, less than 20%
