Mechanical Engineer I ***This position requires an active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret clearance to be considered*** The Mechanical Engineer will assist with disciplined mechanical (HVAC and Plumbing) design reviews for FSRM, and MILCON projects that require expertise in mechanical systems. The Mechanical Engineer will assist with the designs, plans, monitoring, or inspection of mechanical systems critical to the MARFORRES mission of providing safe, secure, and usable Facilities for the Marine Corps Reserve units. Compensation & Benefits: Estimated Starting Salary Range for Mechanical Engineer I: Pay commensurate with experience. Mechanical Engineer I Responsibilities Include:
- Review mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, and related equipment) plans, designs, drawings, and specifications prepared by licensed professional engineers.
- Participate in design reviews, charrettes, Design-Bid-Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) project planning, Functional Analysis Concept Development (FACD), and Request for Proposal (RFP) development for Military Construction (MILCON) and Facilities Sustainment, Repair, and Modernization (FSRM) projects.
- Provide technical comments during all phases of design review and coordinate with Federal agencies (e.g., NAVFAC, USACE) to resolve mechanical design issues.
- Coordinate mechanical interfaces with architectural, structural, electrical, and life-safety systems; identify and resolve coordination conflicts early in the design process.
- Coordinate, validate, and distribute design plans, specifications, and project turnover documentation to the MARFORRES Facilities Department, including but not limited to: As-Built, Pre-Construction, Construction, and Shop Drawings; Operations and Maintenance Support Information (OMSI) documents; commissioning reports; utility one-line drawings; beneficial occupancy documentation; and final inspection deficiency resolutions.
- Identify and evaluate new or revised planning standards, including Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Marine Corps Orders (MCOs), U.S. laws, Executive Orders, and Department of Defense (DoD) regulations affecting facility planning and design. Assist MARFORRES Facilities in applying these requirements to project planning and documentation, and identify discrepancies or deficiencies relative to applicable standards, providing recommendations to the MARFORRES Facilities Directorate.
- Coordinate with construction agencies, MARFORRES Facilities personnel, affected units, and stakeholders to support and monitor FSRM, repair, and MILCON projects, ensuring awareness of construction impacts to operations and assisting with schedule and cost objectives; maintain communication with project sponsors and MARFORRES Facilities regarding project status and progress against the approved baseline.
- Review project Requests for Information (RFIs) and contract modifications (MODs) to identify potential cost and schedule impacts, and maintain project issue, RFI, MOD, and comment logs throughout all project phases to track outstanding items, coordinate stakeholder feedback, and document resolution status for Government review.
- Provide draft meeting minutes and project reports to MARFORREES Facilities staff.
- Maintain communication with the project sponsors and MARFORRES Facilities, on all aspects of assigned projects to ensure stakeholders are informed of project status against planned project baseline.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience required:
- Bachelor's degree in related field;
- Or 8+ years of experience in HVAC/mechanical design, construction, facilities or maintenance engineering, building operations for commercial/industrial facilities
- Professional Licenses preferred (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Alarm and Suppression systems, etc.)
- Experience in reviewing design drawings
Skills and Abilities preferred:
- Understanding of applicable codes/standards equivalent to UFC, DoD and Marine Corps policies and regulations related to facilities planning and engineering projects of special and MILCON scope
- Experience working with NAVFAC and USACE on DoD installations facilities projects, maintenance, and operations, preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to translate and present complex technical and programming information.
- Knowledge of Microsoft operating system, Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat DC.
- Capable of accessing and conducting field assessments of mechanical systems. May be required to climb stairs and ladders as necessary.
- Travel - approximately 25%
