Job Description:

Apply technical experience in eld of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical elds, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems.

Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and dicult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.

Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.

Develop solutions to complex technical problems in elds of expertise.

Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.

Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.

Lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identied by management.

Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.

Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups.

Prepare reports for external publication.

Work Hours: Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; ve days per week), 4/10's (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80's (9 hours/day, ve days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Design Authority Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education: An advanced degree and experience, a Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience. OR A MS degree and 12 years' experience. OR A BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience.

Experience/Skills: Considered an internal expert in area of expertise. Contributes to advancing knowledge in eld of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations. Can solve complex problems in eld.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Area Security Access:

Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.

Additional Duties

- Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.

- Primary responsibilities include:

  • - Engineering analysis, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.

  • Incorporate advanced technical practices to develop solutions for a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements.

Additional Education

- BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering

Additional Experience Qualifications

- The following experience/skills are a requirement for this position:

- The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 15 years design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry. The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities.

- Candidate must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specications; Failure Analysis; Accident

Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.

- The following qualications are preferred for this position:

- Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years is preferred.

- Previous SRS Design Engineering experience and working knowledge of SRNS design processes and procedures are preferred.

Additional Work Requirements

- Candidate must be able to perform weekly eld walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.
