Note: APA operates on a 37.5-hour work week with one-hour lunch breaks each day. APA sets salaries based on several considerations, including years of relevant experience, level of education, and previous staff and/or governance experience at APA.

The American Psychological Association (APA) is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical Senior Accountant to support general ledger operations and the monthly close process. APA is a mission-driven organization dedicated to advancing psychological science to benefit society and improve lives.

Education and Experience Required



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or equivalent experience
  • 5-10 years of accounting experience with hands-on close responsibilities
  • Extensive experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and account analysis
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accrual accounting
  • Excellent critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Strong communication skills


Computer Skills Required



  • Proficiency with ERP systems and strong Excel skills


Responsibilities



  • The Senior Accountant is responsible for executing monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including preparing and reviewing journal entries and performing account reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting. The role supports GAAP compliance across APA and related entities, conducts financial analysis, and generates reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • This position manages LLC accounting by reviewing workpapers prepared by external accountants, supports audit activities, and ensures timely responses to internal and external requests. The Senior Accountant monitors cash flow, identifies risks, and provides insights to support financial decision-making.
  • Additionally, the role evaluates and improves accounting processes and internal controls, safeguarding assets and promoting operational efficiency. The Senior Accountant collaborates across teams and may assist with financial statement preparation, budgeting, and processing documentation.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

    • Assist with accounting system requests as needed and assigned. Assist with projects and ad hoc requests as needed.
