The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience. Job Overview: The Medical Staff Office at RWJUH-New Brunswick is seeking a full-time Medical Staff Coordinator to join the team serving the 2,000 + clinical members of the medical staff. The Medical Staff Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and administration of all aspects of credentialing, privileging, and governance support within the Medical Staff Services Department. Qualifications: Required:
- Bachelors Degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field required
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Medical Staff Services, credentialing, or related field, preferably in an academic or teaching hospital setting
- Experience with credentialing software (e.g. MD-Staff, Echo, Cactus, or Credential Stream)
- Familiarity with OPPE/FPPE processes, privileging criteria, and physician performance data management
Licenses and certifications Required:
- Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) required or within three years of employment
Essential Functions:
- This role ensures compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and accreditation and regulatory standards (The Joint Commission, CMS, NCQA, and state licensing bodies)
- The coordinator supports the effective functioning of the Medical Executive Committee (MEC), Credentials Committee, Department Chairs, and other Medical Staff leadership, while maintaining a collaborative relationship with hospital administration, clinical departments, and affiliated medical schools
- Closely monitors information collection; cognitive analysis of all information received, evaluates adequacy and quality and pursues additional information if necessary, for effective and comprehensive peer review decision-making. This also includes gathering information from the American Medical Association and National Practitioner Data Bank.
- Coordinates and provides administrative support to the Medical/Dental/Allied Health Professionals initial appointment/reappointment and privileging activities in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations so as to assure the maintenance of qualified practitioners who provide patient care in the hospital. Notifies applicants and Hospital personnel of action(s) taken per established Departmental policies/procedures and ensures up-to-date computer file integrity.
- Ensures that all expirables (license, certification, insurance, etc.) are processed on time and efficiently
- In conjunction with the Director, handles and/or is kept up to date on all confidential or sensitive issues concerning Medical Staff members and activities. Employee is directly accountable to the President of the Medical Staff and the Vice President of Medical Affairs/Chief Medical Officer in the absence of the Director.
- Provide the Performance Improvement Coordinators with pertinent information to ensure the Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) reports for Medical Staff are disseminated accurately and reviewed in a timely fashion
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate Service Rules & Regulations maintain accordance with regulatory requirements and are reviewed/revised accordingly.
- Responsible for ensuring that appropriate Service/Division Delineation of Privilege forms are reviewed/revised in accordance with Departmental policy/procedure.
- Responsible for entering and maintaining Authorized staff information in the credentialing software. Notifies applicable departments/services of changes when they occur.
- Responsible for entering and maintaining House Staff (Interns/Residents/Fellows) information/privileges in the credentialing software. Notifies applicable departments/services of changes when they occur.
- Responsible for the technical and administrative support of all functions of the Office of Medical Administration as required or assigned. These functions include, but are not limited to, updating changes to physician profiles, answering incoming telephone calls, scanning/indexing of Credentialing documentation in electronic filing system, handling incoming and outgoing mail, monitoring Physician Dining Lounge for cleanliness and availability of supplies, responding to credentialing verification requests from external agents.
