JOB SUMMARY: The Principal, AI Governance Strategy is the senior orchestrator of Claritev's Data & AI Governance Steering Committee - the enterprise body that sets AI and data governance strategy and policy and resolves cross-functional escalations across Legal, Compliance & Privacy, Security, Core AI, and Data Governance. Reporting directly to the Head of Responsible AI, this individual owns the strategic infrastructure and operating rhythm of the Steering Committee, and carries delegated authority to steer enterprise AI governance direction on the Head's behalf, including leading designated sessions and board-risk narratives. This is a strategy-and-alignment role, not an operational program role. It sits above the review and production gates that move individual initiatives forward; this Principal owns the policy, direction, and cross-functional posture that determine how those decisions get made in the first place. It is also an individual contributor role, deliberately. Your leverage comes from judgment, credibility, and coalition-building rather than from reporting lines - you will set direction for functions you do not manage, and make it stick. The role is remote. Much of the influence work happens asynchronously and one-on-one: the pre-read that lands before the meeting, the call that resolves an escalation before it reaches the committee. Occasional travel for Steering Committee, board, and audit engagements. JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Own the strategic agenda, decision-ready pre-reads, stakeholder pre-alignment, and disciplined follow-through for the Data & AI Governance Steering Committee - and lead designated sessions end-to-end on behalf of the Head of Responsible AI. * Set enterprise AI and data governance strategy and policy, translating regulatory direction, business priorities, and risk posture into clear positions the Steering Committee can decide on. * Serve as the senior cross-functional broker across Legal, Compliance & Privacy, Security, Core AI, and Data Governance - operating with the delegated authority of the Head of Responsible AI to surface, frame, and resolve escalations before and between committee sessions. * Own and maintain the strategic infrastructure that lets governance scale with adoption: the enterprise AI policy framework, escalation pathways, and decision records. * Convert steering decisions into enterprise action - cascading policy, standards, and direction to business units and holding them accountable for adoption. * Own executive- and board-level narratives on AI governance strategy, posture, and maturity, including leading Board Risk Committee engagement materials and external-audit support. * Partner with operational governance leadership to translate recurring review patterns into enterprise policy, and cascade the resulting direction back across business units. REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, and Training): * 10+ years in enterprise strategy, governance, policy, or risk, with substantial time spent on governance itself - not strategy work adjacent to it. * Direct experience owning or running an enterprise governance function or senior decision-making body: policy frameworks, escalation pathways, decision records, and the operating cadence that keeps them alive. * Experience in a regulated industry - healthcare, insurance, financial services, or similar - where regulators, auditors, and board risk committees are part of the operating reality. * A track record across a wide range of senior executive stakeholders, and the standing to be trusted as a peer and broker among Legal, Compliance, Security, and technology leaders - resolving escalations without direct authority. * Demonstrated governance discipline: you close loops, hold senior colleagues to their commitments, and sustain the records and rhythm that make decisions durable. A strategist's altitude with an operator's follow-through. * Sufficient fluency in AI/ML and agentic systems to engage technical leaders credibly and understand where the real risk sits. * Proven ability to frame ambiguous, high-stakes questions into clear, decidable positions for senior and board-level audiences. * Working knowledge of enterprise data governance - the committee's remit spans both AI and data. * Exceptional executive communication and stakeholder judgment; you are as effective in the pre-meeting as in the room. * A law, audit, or hands-on machine learning background is not required. This is a strategy and governance role. Preferred * Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and emerging regulatory expectations (e.g., NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, EU AI Act, state AI legislation, sector-specific guidance). * Familiarity with HIPAA and health data constraints. * Experience supporting board-level risk reporting or external audit engagements. * Experience establishing governance in a fast-scaling technology adoption environment. * Relevant certification (e.g., IAPP AIGP). COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $180k-210K. Specific offers take into account a candidate's education, experience and skills, as well as the candidate's work location and internal equity. This position is also eligible for health insurance, 401k and bonus opportunity. #LI-MZ1
