Join the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home as a Custodial Worker 1 and help create a clean and welcoming environment for our residents. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the facility by performing cleaning tasks that keep rooms, public areas, and equipment safe and sanitary. The work requires physical activity, close attention to detail, and consistent use of proper cleaning methods. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Deep Cleaning: Clean resident rooms, common areas, offices, and other facility spaces to maintain sanitation standards
  • General Cleaning: Mop, scrub, dust, polish, and sweep surfaces including floors, walls, fixtures, and furniture
  • Restroom Care: Clean and sanitize all restrooms and ensure supplies are restocked
  • Waste Disposal: Empty waste containers and dispose of trash and recyclable materials properly
  • Room Preparation: Organize and sanitize rooms before residents move in and assist with furniture moving when needed
  • Safety Awareness: Report unsafe conditions, follow safety rules, and use protective equipment when required

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 7.5 hours per day
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, rotating days and weekends, 30 minute lunch period.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willing to work in Duncansville, Blair County
  • Willing to work a full-time schedule
  • Willing to work 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing)
  • Work experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital
  • Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient or resident rooms or a dining room setting
  • Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas
  • Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Custodial work experience in one of the following environments: activity or recreation room; bathroom, shower, or bathing room; cafeteria or dining room; entranceway, lobby, or common space; nursing station; patient or resident rooms; pharmacy; physical therapy rooms

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
