GENERAL SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineer Intern supports the design, development, testing, and improvement of mechanical products, components, and systems. This role provides hands-on engineering experience through participation in product development, engineering analysis, testing, manufacturing support, and documentation activities under the direct guidance of experienced engineers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
  • Assist with product development activities including concept generation, prototype development, testing, validation, and design refinement.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), reports, and test documentation.
  • Utilize CAD and engineering analysis tools to create models, drawings, calculations, and design documentation.
  • Support laboratory activities, including test setup, execution, data collection, and reporting of results.
  • Assist manufacturing and operations teams by supporting product and process improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and other departments on assigned tasks and projects.
  • Follow established engineering procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards while maintaining accurate and complete documentation.
  • Perform other engineering-related assignments as directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of at least two years of engineering coursework is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering theories, principles, and practices.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for modeling, drafting, and design documentation; SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Basic ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, and specifications.
  • Exposure to engineering analysis tools such as FEA, CFD, or engineering calculations is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

WORK HOURS
  • Approximately 40 hours per week are expected, generally during normal business hours.
  • Part-time employment during the academic year may be available.

EMPLOYMENT DATES
  • Approximately May through July, with final dates determined by business needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
  • Position requires movement around the facilities.
  • Occasional handling of material and components.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
