The Office is currently seeking a Nurse Investigator with the skills and drive to uncover, investigate, and stop fraudulent claims made to taxpayer-funded public health insurance programs. The Nurse Investigator will conduct investigations into the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults throughout Minnesota. This Investigator makes a difference in the lives of vulnerable people and contributes to the economic well-being of Minnesotans and our state.

Nurse Investigators conduct criminal investigations into health care providers suspected of defrauding the Minnesota Medicaid program and abusing, neglecting, or exploiting vulnerable adults. The Nurse investigator uses their nursing skills and familiarity with client care to review medical and other records obtained during investigations, summarize patient medical conditions, care provided or not provided to patients, and identity other patient-care concerns in patient abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation cases and, when necessary, provider fraud cases. Nurse investigators also complete medical records summary based on records review and analysis, and when necessary, provide opinions on quality of care provided. Nurse investigators will also, when necessary, write search warrants or other legal documents based on findings in analysis. Nurse investigators must testify in court proceedings, including jury trials, about their findings.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of in-office work and telework).

Minimum Qualifications

• Active licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Minnesota, OR an active license in another state with the ability to obtain Minnesota licensure within six months of hire
• Ability to perform assigned job responsibilities with a high level of professionalism
• Proven ability to show excellent judgement, character, and work ethic
• Intermediate or advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Familiarity with legal procedures, rules of evidence, and/or investigative procedures
• Demonstrated skill in:
  • Research and writing
  • Critical thinking
  • Communication
  • Investigative Interviewing

To be considered at the Legal Assistant 6 level (LA6), candidates must have at least 5 years of directly related experience. To be considered at the Legal Assistant 7 level (LA7), candidates must have at least 10 years of directly related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or other relevant language for Minnesota
• Additional coursework, degrees, or experience in criminal justice, forensic nursing, legal nurse consulting, or auditing/accounting
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
