The Role: Chief Mission Officer (Service Area)

Become the steward of our Mission, Values, and Vision, playing a pivotal role in infusing these guiding principles into the daily operations of our ministries. As the Chief Mission Officer for our Service Area, you will ensure that our Catholic identity shines through every action and decision, preserving our cultural essence even amidst change and transitions.

What You'll Do:

Mission Integration Leader: Drive the embodiment of our Mission and Values across all organizational activities, including governance, strategy, and spiritual care. Ensure that our caregivers and leaders resonate with who we say we are.

Strategic Collaborator: Work closely with the Chief Mission Integration Officer (Division) and maintain strong partnerships with leaders and caregivers at all levels. Your role will be both matrixed and collaborative, serving as a trusted member of the leadership team.

Essential Functions:

Counselor and Visionary:



  • Act as a prophetic visionary and thought-partner, connecting strategic priorities with our Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Ensure that these core elements are woven throughout meetings, training, and communications.
  • Interview leadership candidates to assess their alignment with our Mission.
  • Lead the Mission Fidelity Assessment process and sponsor caregiver values award programs.


Advocate for All:



  • Be the voice for our community's most vulnerable, ensuring their needs are considered in decision-making.
  • Advocate for caregiver wellness and support inclusive culture initiatives.
  • Engage with governance bodies to represent community interests and support DEI efforts.


Renewal Leader:



  • Spearhead formation and development programs that nurture and renew our caregivers and leaders.
  • Lead Mission-centered onboarding for new team members, fostering a deep connection to our values.
  • Recognize and address dynamics that affect caregiver vitality and ministry effectiveness.


Ethical Guide:



  • Guide operational decisions through ethical discernment practices aligned with Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Facilitate caregiver engagement in ethics education and maintain collaborative relationships with ethics leaders.


Spiritual Support Leader:



  • Provide matrix leadership to chaplains and spiritual health providers, ensuring their work is integrated into leadership decisions.
  • Collaborate on rituals, celebrations, and communal prayers that honor the diversity of spiritualities in our community.


What You'll Bring:



  • Faith-Aligned Leadership: Ideally, a practicing member of the Catholic Church with a Master's Degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, or a related field.
  • Ethics Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of Catholic teachings and Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
  • Healthcare Insight: Twelve years of progressive experience in healthcare or mission-related administration, with ten years in leadership roles.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Competence in facilitating change, inspiring others, and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Spiritual and Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to engage diverse religious backgrounds and articulate connections between personal spirituality and organizational mission.
