Position Type : Full timeType Of Hire : Experienced (relevant combo of work and education)Job Description At FIS, our technology and our people are moving forward. We advance the way the world pays, banks and invests. We believe in building inclusive, diverse teams. Together, we innovate to help our colleagues, clients and communities succeed. If you're ready to grow your career and make an impact in fintech, we have one question: Are you FIS? About the Role You will shape the platform FIS teams use to reach customers through email, push notifications and SMS. You will define how messages are composed, branded, delivered, measured and governed across many financial institutions, and make it easy for teams across FIS to send consistent, compliant and timely communications without building it themselves. As a principal engineer, you will set technical direction for customer messaging, make the build, buy or adopt calls, and connect business stakeholders with engineering. Success means messages reach customers reliably, look right for every brand, and meet regulatory requirements by default. What You Will Be Doing * Define the architecture and technical strategy for customer messaging across email, push notifications and SMS. * Build shared services for message templating, multi-brand theming, personalization and orchestration across channels. * Own deliverability and reliability: email authentication, push delivery through Apple and Google, SMS carrier compliance, retries and failover. * Lead decisions on messaging vendors and infrastructure, including build, buy or adopt tradeoffs. * Build preference, consent and opt-out management that meets regulatory requirements for financial services. * Make delivery, engagement and failure metrics visible to teams and stakeholders. * Serve as the primary technical partner for business and product stakeholders who depend on customer messaging. * Translate business, product and compliance needs into platform capabilities, roadmaps and clear tradeoffs. * Enable AI agents and AI-assisted workflows to compose, personalize and send messages safely. * Partner with design, web, mobile, security and platform teams to deliver consistent customer experiences. * Shape the content platform that supplies copy and assets to messaging, web and mobile channels. * Coach engineers and technical leads while strengthening engineering practices. What You Will Need * Extensive experience architecting and delivering production-grade messaging or notification platforms at scale. * Hands-on experience with email delivery, push notifications (APNs, FCM) and SMS. * Knowledge of email deliverability and authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and SMS compliance (for example, 10DLC and short codes). * Proven ability to work with business stakeholders and translate their needs into technical direction. * Strong experience with modern backend and frontend engineering, including TypeScript and API design. * Proven technical leadership across architecture, standards and cross-team delivery. * Hands-on experience with AI coding tools and a point of view on how they change engineering work. * Degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Added Bonus If You Have * Experience in banking, payments or financial services. * Experience with messaging providers or customer engagement platforms, such as Twilio, SendGrid, Braze or similar. * Hands-on experience spinning up an APNs system from scratch. * Knowledge of communication regulations and consent management in financial services (for example, TCPA and CAN-SPAM). * Experience building multi-tenant or white-label messaging for many brands. * Experience with headless content management systems and content modeling. * Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or exposing platform capabilities to AI agents. * Familiarity with secure software development practices for regulated financial environments. What We Offer You At FIS, you can grow your career as far as you want to take it.
