What to Expect
The Injection Molding Tooling Engineer owns new and current plastic injection tools from design through launch. The engineer brings manufacturing into the part design, runs DFM, and models the mold, including layout, parting lines, actions, and mechanisms. The engineer builds the CAPEX plan and the RFQs, leads the toolmaker through design and construction, commissions the tool in the factory, and sets appearance standards with design and quality. After launch, the engineer uses process data to hold quality and rate, and confirms the process can scale. What You'll Do * Lead new plastic injection tooling projects for product performance and cosmetic requirements
* Bring the voice of manufacturing into the design * Run advanced DFMs, judge part feasibility, and give solutions that meet both engineering and manufacturing requirements * Design and model the injection mold: layout, parting lines, actions, and mechanisms * Apply resin molding knowledge and tool-steel and alloy knowledge, and build the CAPEX plan and RFQs for prototype and production tooling * Lead engineering subcontractors on process design, layout, and construction of new plastics tooling * Develop solutions that let each program's product be made * Commission the tool and launch it in the factory, and set part appearance standards with design and vehicle quality * Use data to optimize the molding process for quality and production requirements * Support engineering builds and confirm the molding process can scale What You'll Bring * A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
* 5-7 or more years designing and processing Class A large or medium automotive injection molds * Tool design and 3D modeling in CATIA V5, Cimatron, NX, or an equivalent * Strong knowledge of molding processes, post-molding operations, and mold-flow simulation, including fill and cooling * Solid understanding of DFM, DFA, and GD&T * CAD skill in CATIA, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD, plus mold-flow tools * Experience working across teams in a fast environment with little guidance * Able to communicate with internal teams and outside vendors * Willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% a year * Automotive Tier 1 or tool-shop experience is preferred Benefits
