Are you a dynamic, creative, and community-focused individual? We are currently seeking qualified applicants to fill three vacancies for Recreation Programmers. Recreation Programmers plan and facilitate programs and special events. By joining our team, you will play a vital role in the new center into a vibrant hub of our community. The roles available are multifaceted, involving the development, creation, and supervision of exceptional programs for our fantastic community.
Successful candidates will be able to generate innovative ideas, particularly to the implementation of mobile recreation. In addition to having demonstrated proficiency in program development and promoting community engagement, the ideal candidate should also possess a deep understanding of the needs for programs and camps for all ages. They should be flexible and willing to work during evenings, weekends, and holidays when required, and be adaptable to changing schedules and community needs. Furthermore, they should demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and excel in collaborative team environments.
We are currently hiring for the following locations:
- Ashburn Recreation & Community Center | Ashburn, VA (opens in 2025)
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Design, implement and manage recreation programs, including classes, activities and special events, tailored to the needs of our community, including youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
- Actively engage with community members to assess their needs and interests, ensuring the programs are inclusive and accessible.
- Organize and oversee all aspects of special events; including creation, marketing, logistics, budgeting, permitting, staffing, etc.
- Develop and implement marketing strategy to ensure high levels of participants in all recreation programs.
- Develop program evaluation standards, methods and tools. Successfully incorporate evaluation data into future program planning.
- Supervision of part time Instructor and/or Camp staff, to include: interviewing, onboarding, discipline, and evaluation.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers to create a supportive and enjoyable environment for all.
- Other essential job functions that are specific to the position and department assignment may be carried out.
Work schedule varies following operational hours and may include weekday, evening, and weekend hours.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or equivalent and Two years of applicable work experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience in a related field.
- One (1) year of experience with recreation programming.
- One (1) year of experience managing large-scale events and conducting outreach activities in a community setting.

- Criminal background, credit, CPS, and DMV checks are required.
- You must have a valid driver's license and a favorable driving record.
- Continued qualification requires an annual review of driving records.
- For continued qualification, driving records may be reviewed annually.
- Fingerprints and TB tests must be conducted within 30 days of employment.
- First Aid/CPR certification is required to be obtained within four months of being hired or at the time of hiring.
