Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Department of Intelligence Studies, Geospatial Science, Political Science and History offers a variety of bachelor's degrees in political science, history, geospatial science, along with an approved BA in Intelligence Studies (seated and online degree completion formats). Responsibilities of faculty include teaching at the undergraduate level, research, and service to the university and to the community. Special attention will be given to those applicants with practitioner experience in the U. S. Intelligence Community or intelligence-related fields and the ability to manage applied analytic projects or to those with particularly strong levels of scholarship and a well-defined research agenda relevant to intelligence studies, information security, accounting/finance security and/or cyber security. In addition to instruction, research, and scholarship, duties will include curriculum development, service to the profession, and participation in college and department activities. Candidates must be capable of providing web-based instruction. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
This is an Assistant Professor tenure-track, 9-month appointment. The Assistant Professor of Intelligence Studies is expected to teach at the undergraduate level, conduct research, and provide service to the university and to the community. The candidate will be instrumental in progressively moving the Intelligence Studies program forward, creating strong partnership connections with the local, state, and national communities, growing the program, and helping to create avenues of success for program graduates.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
The Assistant Professor of Intelligence Studies must hold a PhD or other terminal degree in a discipline related to intelligence studies. This position is not a remote position. This position requires residency. A strong commitment to excellence in teaching is expected. A positive and approachable demeanor, as well as the capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, is necessary. Strong interpersonal abilities when interacting with professionals in the FSU service area and a deep commitment to preserving and advancing FSU's HBCU legacy, mission, and culture are essential.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Knowledge:

  • Disciplinary Expertise: In-depth knowledge of current theories, models, and best practices in Intelligence Studies.
  • Educational Technology: Proficiency in using educational technology, digital tools, and online learning platforms to enhance teaching and support student engagement and learning outcomes.


Skills:

  • Teaching and Instruction: Ability to deliver effective and engaging instruction to intelligence studies majors, employing a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs and to cultivate a collaborative and nurturing learning atmosphere.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex concepts clearly and interact with students, colleagues, and community stakeholders effectively.
  • Critical Thinking: Capacity to analyze challenges, identify innovative solutions, and make informed decisions on Intelligence Studies-related issues.

Abilities:

  • Collaboration: Willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders to enhance crime and/or justice-associated initiatives, promote community engagement, and advance the goals of FSU's Department of Intelligence Studies, Geospatial Science, Political Science and History and College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust instructional approaches and strategies based on individual student needs and changing educational trends and technologies
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning: A dedication to staying informed about current research, emerging trends, and developments in the discipline of Intelligence Studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with online course development and instruction in Canvas or other online learning management systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to mentor students.
